Spring Lake

A Fisherman’s Paradise

Spring Lake is famous for its 244 acres of water, and for a family that fishes, it’s a gold mine. Because the lake is "no-wake" (idle speed only), the water stays calm and clear, making it a dream for spotting largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish. 2026  is a big one for the park! The city and park management have been working on a multi-phase improvement plan to modernize the shoreline.

Hiking the "Rat" and the "Fox"

The trail system at Spring Lake is surprisingly extensive for a city-owned park, offering over 9 miles of scenic paths that wind through dense hardwoods and along the lake’s edge. Eagle Trail is a family favorite for a reason, it hugs the shoreline, providing constant views of the water and easy access to those "secret" fishing spots off the bank. If you’re feeling adventurous, the Rat Trail and Fox Trail offer more elevation changes and winding turns. They are popular with mountain bikers too, so keep an ear out for the "whirr" of tires!

Camping Under the Illinois Stars

Spring Lake is one of those rare parks where you can find exactly the type of camping vibe you want. Whether you’re looking for a quiet "primitive" tent site tucked into the pines or a full 50-amp RV hookup with all the comforts of home, the park has plenty of room. For the "glampers" in the family, the park's cabins, including the "Suite Cabin", offer a cozy way to wake up right on the lake without having to set up a tent.

A True Community Gem

What makes Spring Lake special is how well it’s cared for. Between the awesome Bait Shop (your one-stop shop for "what's biting" intel) and the friendly park management, it feels like a community rather than just a park. It’s the perfect place to set up camp, put the phones away, and see who can catch the biggest "fish tale" of the weekend.
