Cubs vs. Cardinals at Busch Stadium

Our travels took us to the heart of downtown St. Louis for one of the most storied matchups in all of sports: the Chicago Cubs vs. the St. Louis Cardinals. While we were deep in "enemy territory" at Busch Stadium, we were there for a reason much bigger than the game itself. This visit was the culmination of a big fundraising effort by our school. Through a ticket-selling program, our community rallied together, and because we hit our goal, our kids earned the opportunity of a lifetime. They weren't just attending the game, they were performing on the field. Watching them walk out onto the grass and take their places at home plate to sing the National Anthem was a proud moment we’ll never forget. Standing in a stadium that holds over 44,000 people, hearing their voices ring out across the diamond where legends like Stan Musial and Albert Pujols played, was absolutely surreal.

The View from the Stands

Busch Stadium is often called "Baseball Heaven," and it’s hard to argue with the aesthetics. Even as loyal Cubs fans, we had to admit that the view of the Gateway Arch framed perfectly beyond the center-field wall is one of the best sights in baseball. The stadium has a classic "retro" feel with its red brick facade, and the energy of a Cubs-Cardinals game is electric. There is nothing quite like the sea of Cardinals Red clashing with the proud flashes of Cubs Blue in the stands.

Rivalry in the Air

The atmosphere was exactly what you’d expect from a rivalry that dates back to 1892. The "friendly" banter between fans was in full swing, and every pitch felt like it mattered. While the Cardinals may own the stadium, our group made sure the "Go Cubs!" chants were heard loud and clear!

A Victory Before the First Pitch

Regardless of the final score on the board, we felt like we won the day. Seeing the kids' faces on the giant scoreboard and watching them stand tall at home plate was the ultimate highlight. We left the stadium with some great souvenirs, a lot of pride, and our loyalty to the North Side of Chicago firmly intact.
